Publishing: Reader subscriptions, paid newsletters, subscribers

Paid newsletters, newspaper digital subscriptions with paywall and e-paper, print subscriptions with dispatch file and circulation report — order page, payment to publisher, passwordless reader account.

Brochure "DivineMind.AI — Verlagswesen" (PDF, 14 pages) · Reader subscriptions are on pages 8–10.

1. Create subscription product

Reader subscriptions · Order Link

  • Menu “Reader subscriptions” › Subscription products › New subscription product: Name, gross price, VAT rate, billing cycle (monthly, quarterly, yearly), trial period, notice period, minimum term.
  • You will immediately receive an order link. Link it on your website or in newsletter teasers.
  • Price or term changes apply only to new orders; active subscriptions keep their terms.
  • Billing also semi-annually: Available options are monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually. Trial period 0 to 365 days — the reader provides their payment method upon ordering. The list shows how many subscriptions are currently "In Trial Period".
  • For Germany, the form checks the limits according to § 309 No. 9 BGB: minimum term a maximum of 24 months, thereafter notice period a maximum of 1 month.

2. Order by the reader

  • The order page displays gross price, term, cancellation, payment method, your company details, and cancellation policy in 30 languages.
  • The reader orders with the button “Order with obligation to pay”. Payer and recipient can be different persons (gift, corporate subscription).
  • The subscription is only created after email confirmation (double opt-in). Then the reader pays online via your Mollie account; DivineFinance generates the subscription invoice.

3. Reader account and cancellation

  • Readers log in via an email link; there is no password. They view subscription, payment status, invoices, and can update their delivery address.
  • Cancellation takes two steps with email confirmation, also without login via “Cancel contracts here”. The subscription ends at the end of the current billing period.
  • Within 14 days, the reader can cancel via right of withdrawal in the account.

4. Send issue

  • Issues & dispatch › New issue: Subject, content (HTML), and optional PDF. The PDF is stored privately and sent only to subscribers.
  • “Check recipients” shows who receives the issue: only active and paid subscriptions (or within trial period). Cancelled subscriptions receive nothing after the cancellation date.
  • Before the first dispatch of each issue, approve it via the autonomy switch (Automation › Approvals). Afterwards, the issue is dispatched in batches via your connected mailbox.

5. Newspaper digital subscription: paywall, e-paper, right of withdrawal

  • Reader subscriptions › Digital: Enable digital access, enter your website URL, set free articles per month and devices per subscription (default 3), copy the embed code.
  • Only the teaser appears on the article page. Place the full text under "Articles behind the paywall" with the same ID; the snippet only displays it if the subscription is active and paid (or if a free article remains).
  • Readers log in on your website via an email link. If a payment is pending, access is blocked and the reader sees "Pay now".
  • E-paper: Upload a PDF for each issue. It remains private; readers open it in their reader account or via the daily email with a personal link, each page carrying their reader ID.
  • Daily E-Paper Email: Under "Daily E-Paper Email", set the time (your company's time zone). From then on, the email with the personal link is sent to all paid digital subscriptions — released via your own autonomy button "Send E-Paper". The watermark with the reader identification is on every page.
  • The order page includes "Withdraw from contract" without requiring login, including an email confirmation of receipt (EU withdrawal function).

6. Print: Mailing file and circulation per issue

  • Reader Subscriptions › Print: Select the title (magazine) of the print product, enter the Zeitungskennzahl (ZKZ) for Germany, and specify whether cancellations take effect with the issue instead of the end of the period.
  • Record subscription at the publisher: paid (subscription invoice with payment link via your Mollie account) or free, voucher, legal deposit, and exchange copy without invoice, with reason and term. Bulk subscription: one payer, any number of recipients with their own quantity. "Referred by" and referral gift are recorded for reference only.
  • Holiday: Suspension (no delivery) or forwarding to a different address for a specific period. You define per product whether the suspension extends the subscription (see 7).
  • Select issue: On the publication date, the recipient list checks every subscription (contract active, not on vacation, paid) and states the reason if a subscription is not being delivered. From this, generate the address file for Austrian Post, the Pressepost file for Deutsche Post, or a CSV file for delivery services and printers. The files are kept private; every access is logged.
  • Circulation report: Subscription, free, voucher, and international copies are pulled from the subscriber list; you enter the print run, single-copy sales, and returns. You see the fields structured according to ÖAK and IVW guidelines, freeze the status for reporting, and export it. You submit the report directly to ÖAK or IVW.

7. Print: Billing for suspensions, cancellations, and bulk subscriptions

  • Reader Subscriptions › Print: Shipping & Circulation › select three options for the product. All are initially disabled; subscription billing then remains unchanged upon suspension, cancellation, or bulk subscriptions.
  • “Suspension extends subscription”: A holiday suspension postpones the next billing date by the suspension days. Forwarding never extends the subscription.
  • “Pro-rata credit note on cancellation effective at an issue”: If the subscription ends before the paid period expires, a draft credit note is created for the undelivered days (at most one per invoice). After cancellation, you will see the number and amount or the reason why none was created. You can review and send it under Finance › Credit notes. This does not apply to statutory withdrawals.
  • "Bulk subscription: Price follows copies": Use "Bulk subscription" on the subscription to add recipients or change copy counts. Starting with the next billing, Price = Copies × Price per copy applies; previously billed periods remain unchanged. If the toggle is off, paid bulk subscriptions cannot be modified.

8. Subscription Invoices and AIRIS

  • Subscription Invoices: Every paid subscription has a subscription invoice in DivineFinance. There you see the interval and the next invoice; the reader pays via the payment link of your Mollie account. Free copies, specimen copies, mandatory copies, and exchange copies do not have a subscription invoice.
  • AIRIS for Reader Subscriptions: Ask in the chat, e.g., "How many subscribers does the newsletter have?" or "Who canceled this month?" — AIRIS reads the subscription status and cancellations. AIRIS does not send out issues, specimen copies, or the e-paper email itself; this is done via approval or the autonomy button.
TIP: Note

Sending is contract fulfillment, not advertising: No marketing consent is required, and "Unsubscribe" leads to subscription cancellation. AIRIS answers questions such as "How many subscribers does the newsletter have?" or "Who cancelled?".
