AI Literacy Is Mandatory: How to Turn Training Into an Engaging Experience

Since February 2, 2025, the EU AI Act requires companies deploying AI systems to ensure that their staff possess sufficient AI literacy (Article 4). Many immediately envision a tedious compliance session filled with slides. However, there is a better, more effective approach.

What the Law Requires—and What It Does Not

Article 4 does not prescribe a specific format. It calls for measures that are proportionate to the respective use case. Personnel utilizing AI in customer-facing roles require different skills than those automating invoice processing. What matters is keeping a clear record of who learned what, and when.

Concise, Actionable, and Context-Specific

The most effective training modules take minutes, not hours: a brief video demonstrating a feature to be used the following day; three practical quiz questions to verify understanding; and a real-world scenario from your own operations—such as reviewing a draft response, validating output, and finalizing approval.

Core Competencies Every Employee Needs

Understanding what the AI does within the organization—and what it does not. Knowing how to review generated outputs and identify common errors. Recognizing which data can be safely processed. Knowing who holds decision-making authority and how approval workflows operate. And understanding precisely what to do if an issue arises.

Engagement Over Mandates

Reluctance often stems from concerns regarding job security. Openly communicating which tasks AI handles and how the saved time will be repurposed is far more impactful than any training session. Involving employees in the implementation process builds trust significantly faster.

Compliance Without the Bureaucracy

A verifiable certificate for each employee, complete with date and covered topics, simplifies compliance. When new features are introduced, targeted micro-lessons can be completed seamlessly without the need to repeat the entire curriculum.
